Nobool Presents is proud to announce that the November edition of the Freewheelin' First Friday music series features a CD Release Party for Rich Mattson & The Northstars. This highly-acclaimed band will be celebrating their upcoming release Starmaps and have invited their friend Matt Arthur & The Bratlanders to open the evening.
Rich Mattson is a Minnesota singer-songwriter and musician best recognized for his work with rock and roll/Americana bands the Glenrustles (1988-1999), Ol’ Yeller (2000-2012) and the Tisdales (2008-2014). The man is a human jukebox with a songbook of epic proportions. He is also well-known for his studio work at Sparta Sound in northern Minnesota, and Flowerpot (1991-2005, Minneapolis), where along with producing his own albums, he has recorded literally hundreds of musical artists.

One of these artists is Germaine Gemberling, with whom he formed a special bond in around 2009, when he played guitar and harmonica on her folky debut. The two continued to play shows and record music, eventually living together and collaborating on albums with Junkboat and Ol’ Yeller. In the winter of 2014, Rich and Germaine decided to augment their folk-rock acoustic duo by adding violin/fiddle, drums and bass.

The name “Rich Mattson and the Northstars” as it turns out, is a very serendipitous moniker. Rich threw out the name “The Northstars” on a lark, as Germaine’s publishing company is called “L'Étoile du Nord” (or “The Star of the North” - the Minnesota State motto). He told his mom about the new band he was starting and she said, “Ya, that was the name of my cousin Jimmy’s band. They played at your father and my wedding.” Rich had no idea..or did he??

Matt Woods & The Natural Disasters
Hailing from Knoxville, TN, Matt Woods spends the bulk of his time on the road touring in support of his most recent studio release How To Survive. His previous album, With Love From Brushy Mountain, garnered national and international acclaim including accolades citing the album and it’s first single, Deadman’s Blues, at the top of several critics’ “Best Of” lists.

“Some folks call what I do Americana, but I have a hard time putting a label on things like that. A lot of my songs are very much based in classic country music while others are grounded in straight forward and greasy rock’n’roll,” Woods explains. “I write what is ready to come out and try to be as honest as I can about it.”

“Like Jason Isbell, another son of the South who bears a tenacious tone, Woods is in the vanguard of country music’s feisty new generation. And in With Love From Brushy Mountain, he’s helping set the standard.” No Depression
